In 1938, President Franklin Roosevelt founded the March of Dimes. It was originally established to fight polio, but has evolved into so much more. Today, the March of Dimes raises money and awareness to help fight prematurity and offers support to parents like me who have been touched by these special babies. The volunteers and supporters of the March of Dimes are asking the President to light the White House purple on January 3, 2013 in order to honor the 75th anniversary of this wonderful foundation. We ask that you honor our babies and sign this petition.
Fun fact: President Roosevelt urged the public to mail in dimes to raise money for the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, now known as the March of Dimes. Shortly after his death, Roosevelt was honored with his image on the US coin.
